View the Sun safely with a Meade Full Aperture Glass Solar Filter securely mounted on the front of your telescope. These white-light filters are designed to reveal sunspots and surface granulation on the solar disk, and allow you to safely view solar eclipses and planetary transits. Note that they are not hydrogen-alpha filters, which show prominences and solar flare detail. For that type of solar viewing, consider upgrading to a Coronado Solar Telescope.

These solar filter are designed and manufactured in the USA. Their reflective coatings block 99.999% of incoming light; the tiny fraction that is transmitted to your eyes is completely safe. All Meade solar filters are tested at specialized labs that are accredited to verify compliance with the ISO 12312-2 safety specifications for solar viewing.

The glass filter is held in an aluminum cell, which features three safety thumbscrews to ensure a secure grip on the telescope. The filter covers the full aperture of the telescope.

Meade Full Aperture Glass Solar Filters work with any type of telescope and come in a variety of sizes. Choose the right size filter to fit over the front of your telescope. Compatibility with various Meade telescopes is indicated for the individual filters. For other brands of telescope, you will need to measure the diameter of the front of your telescope, then select the appropriate filter for that diameter.

Warning: Meade White-Light Solar Filters are only intended for closed tube telescopes and should not be used with open truss designs such as the Meade 10, 12 and 16" LightBridge Dobsonians. Incident sunlight allowed in by the open tube design could cause damage to the telescope optics and on these designs will cause instant and irreversible eye damage potentially including permanent blindness. A light shroud is not sufficient protection from harmful solar rays.

CAUTION:Never look at the Sun, either directly or through a telescope, without a professionally made protective solar filter installed that completely covers the front of the instrument, or permanent eye damage could result.
